Donald Trump Talks About the Late Jimmy Carter During a Meeting With Italian Prime Minister

Donald Trump’s remarks on the late Jimmy Carter, which have sparked reactions from netizens, came years after the late former president had strong feelings against Trump.

During a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, President Donald Trump made a reference to the late former US President Jimmy Carter. Trump’s statements came while he was discussing the tariffs he imposed on countries throughout the world, gloating about his actions as president in comparison to his predecessors, whom he attacked. The President’s remarks soon shifted from policy to personal criticism as he lauded his trade achievements. “We were treated very unfairly on trade,” he claimed, before making a clear distinction between his presidency and those who preceded it.

He argued that previous US leaders either lacked commercial acumen or did not care to prioritize it, stating frankly, “We had presidents that, in some cases, were smart, but they didn’t understand business […] or it wasn’t like a priority.”

The moment became especially explosive when he referred to the previous administration as “useless,” “incompetent,” and the “worst administration in the history” of the United States, claiming their sole strength was “chea:ting in elections.”

But what he said about Carter struck a deeper chord. Trump said dismissively, “Jimmy Carter di:ed a happy man.” Do you know why? Because Joe Biden was the worst president, not Barack Obama.”It didn’t take long for social media to erupt in response to Trump’s latest outburst.

One netizen stated, “So unprofessional and disrespectful.” Another echoed a similar sentiment, “I have no words!”

A third person reflected on the broader implications, writing, “So sad to see our president like this.” Several others voiced their frustration in similar tones, with one observer asserting, “The disrespect is too much.”

Years before Carter’s passing away, and well before Trump’s recent jab, the former president had previously issued his own sharp criticism. In a rare public departure from his generally restrained approach, Carter spoke openly about Trump’s leadership in 2018, two years into his first term.

“I think he’s a disaster,” Carter said. “In human rights and taking care of people and treating people equal [sic].”
Though he remained mainly silent about Trump in his latter years, his single, unwavering comment left no mistake about his position. Carter’s statements appear to ring truer than ever after Trump’s remarks.
