In what may be considered one of his most significant single-word replies on X (formerly Twitter), the platform he owns, Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), suggested that his new department is uncovering extensive corruption within the government as it investigates federal expenditures.

To provide context, DOGE began its examination of federal spending almost immediately after its establishment by President Donald Trump. So far, it has notably identified and terminated numerous small-scale, wasteful contracts, including unused leases that Musk has eliminated, DEI contracts that have been eradicated, and even contracts for watering plants that cost thousands of dollars.

While these budgetary items have attracted considerable attention, there is widespread speculation that far more severe corruption is being uncovered, a notion Musk has alluded to with comments regarding “vampires” who are inexplicably old yet continue to receive Social Security payments, along with other significant issues.

Although Musk’s major disclosures have primarily focused on wasteful spending rather than direct corruption, many conservatives, especially those online, believe he is uncovering substantial corruption. One individual expressed this sentiment in a post on X, sharing an image that stated, “First of All Elon is Not Finding Wasteful Spending…He’s Finding Kickbacks, Money Laundering & Theft. No wonder they’re screaming for him to stop!”

Musk seemingly acknowledged this post, which had garnered nearly 5 million impressions at the time of this writing. By quote-tweeting it, he affirmed its accuracy, indicating that he is indeed uncovering the extensive corruption referenced by the poster, simply stating, “True” in his response regarding the corruption discovered by DOGE.
Mr. Musk has pointed out that a significant source of corruption and inefficiency lies within American entitlement programs, which he believes are adversely affected by improper payments. In a recent interview with Larry Kudlow on Fox Business, Musk reiterated this concern, stating to the host and audience, “The waste report in entitlement spending, you know, which constitutes a large portion of federal expenditure, is entitlements. So that’s the major area to address, potentially amounting to half a trillion, maybe $600 to $700 billion annually.”
